about

A special collection of recordings from Leigh Barker and his six piece group, recorded on tour in Hobart Australia late in 2013. This release marks the last 'album' from the six piece configuration often known as 'The New Sheiks'. Since this recording session the band has expanded to eight members, sometimes even fifteen when the dancers known as the 'Melbourne Rhythm Project' join them! ONLY AVAILABLE AS A DOWNLOAD!

This music runs a range of material the band was trying on tour in 2013. From classic blues (Santa Claus) to 60s dissonance (Lonesome Train) early New Orleans (Poor L'l Me, Tom Cat Blues) and even more ancient pre-cajun music (La Louisiana) as well as 21st Century music from Leigh Barker and Tom Vincent (Do I Love You) and Andy Fite (Sex With My Ex)

Band: Leigh Barker - double bass, Heather Stewart - violin and voice, Eamon McNelis - trumpet, Donald Stewart - trombone, Matt Boden - piano, Sam Young - drums.

Recorded, mixed and mastered by Stewart Long from Red Planet Studios. Produced by Leigh Barker and Stewart Long.

Album cover design by Megan Grant, photo by Nick Monk
